Odds and sods and news

News from the future: Some band called R.E.M. is apparently hitting the campaign trail again, wrapping up a set of shows in Dublin, where the groop played new tunes and some rare oldies.

7/7/7 = music day: If you're in MPLS, hit up the Prince double-header, for environmentalists and couch potatoes, you've got the Al Gore thing. For cool New Yorkers, you absolutely must hit up what's being billed as 77 Boa Drum, the Boredoms' 77 drum concert at the Brooklyn Bridge. Wow. I saw them in Tokyo with three drummers, and it was amazing. Multiply that by, um, 35 or whatever, and just imagine...

Sly Stone speaks: The legendary funkateer has stepped out of his hermit-like existence and granted Vanity Fair (our hated rival) a lengthy innerview to be found in their August ish. So, um, go buy it, I guess.

Van Halen to reunite for the first time ever...oh wait: The erstwhile hair band is planning an arena tour in the fall (seriously this time). And DLR would be on board.

Free Girl Talk/Moving Units in L.A. To celebrate its 11th anniversary, BPM will host a free shindig at the Avalon on July 19, featuring Girl Talk, Moving Units, A-Trak, Jason Bentley and others.
