Review: Long Blondes @ The Echo

6/15/07, Los Angeles: The latest in hype-stirring U.K. pop bands, The Long Blondes mash-up Franz Ferdinand-style dance-rock, Sleater-Kinney vocal wails and Pulp-inspired choruses (they hail from Sheffield). But besides having one of the cutest bass players since Kim Deal debuted with the Pixies, Long Blondes didn't bring much to the table Friday night at the sold-out Echo. Singer Kate Jackson's vocals and onstage preening were not as cool as some may think, and the incessant disco beat grew particularily stale after twenty minutes. Still, judging from the crowd's reactions, big things are in store for the group.
